For who?

Lexico is meant for any person or organization in need of managing and publishing accessible multimedia lexicons, in an educational or documentary context.

For what?

Lexico enables one to create lexicons, glossaries, thesaurus, vocabularies:

  • Web, with 3 ways to access the terms: alphabetical order, by category, through the search engine,

  • Multimedia: enriched with images, sounds, videos,...

  • Mono or bilingual (French / English),

  • Accessible.

Lexico also offers a PDF publication of the lexicon.

What interests?

  • Define a set of terms, enriched by descriptive audio-visual resources, linked together, following a writing guide.

  • Publish several lexicons from a same base of terms, according to various selection criteria.

  • Enable the translation of terms and make the distribution in several languages easier.

  • Obtain accessible web sites.

  • Use the XML norm for the storage of contents and exchanges (with translators, for instance).

  • Follow the progress of the lexicon terms production by using a life cycle, in a client/server environment.

How does it work?

  • First you need to create an item Term where you can input:

    • The grammatical nature of the term, with equivalent terms if need be,

    • A definition, with its origin and links to other items in relation with the defined term,

    • The phonetic form of the term, possibly enriched with a sound file of its pronunciation,

    • Tags, to create search criteria.

  • You can add multimedia or desktop resources (image, video, audio, pdf, zip,...) with a simple drag and drop.

  • You can link terms between them and specify synonymy relations, associations, etc, in order to enable browsing between terms.

  • The writing guide enables you to input the required alternatives to ensure the digital accessibility.

  • The lexicon usually displays the terms classified in alphabetical order. No need to link the terms to a scenario item, in fact, the author defines a request to select the terms to publish.

      • Terms: detailed and illustrated definition of a word from the lexicon

        • Tags: index entries (search criteria / categories)

        • Sources: definition origin(s)

        • Multimedia resources (images, animations (videos, audio), documents...)

        • Links: to freely specify a relation between 2 terms.
